Combating Winter Laziness & Weight Gain

Combating Winter Laziness & Weight Gain

Posted by Crescent Moon on Oct 21st 2020

The winter season can be a difficult one when it comes to weight management. The roads and trails we usually use to jog tend to be covered in snow and nearly inaccessible in the usual manner. It’s important to find an alternative to jogging or running in the winter season—especially if you don’t live near a gym—to maintain exercise throughout the year.

Winter is the most difficult season to do this (where did all the sunlight go?), so it tends to be the most detrimental time of year for people’s health. Snowshoes are an excellent way to combat winter idleness, and will help you burn calories and maintain a healthy level of cardio.

Physical and mental health in the winter months

Of course, physical health isn’t the only thing that snowshoeing will help mend during the winter season. Not only will getting out in the sun during the winter help your physical health, but it will also aid you in staving off winter depression, or seasonal affective disorder.

Too much downtime in the winter season often results in depression. Snowshoeing is a great way to combat that depression, which has a little to do with being idle, and a little to do with lack of sunlight. Don’t be lazy, get out and enjoy the weather! If seasonal affective disorder is something you may suffer from be sure to consult a doctor too. Snowshoeing and getting exercise may help, but make sure you’re seeking out additional help if needed.

Bonding with your friends during the winter season

The winter days are much shorter than those in our more active summer season, which makes it all the more important to get exercise in while you can. Snowshoeing is a great way to get out in the sun in the little time we have during the season. The lack of time we have between sunrise and sundown is another aspect of the winter season that makes it important to come up with a snowshoe schedule and to make plans to go with a friend or spouse regularly.

Snowshoeing is an excellent way to bond with those closest to you. You’ll work up a sweat if you’re snowshoeing for a while, but keep in mind that this is okay as long as you’re staying well hydrated. Always be sure to protect yourself against the elements, and travel on terrain you’re comfortable with.

A winter full of adventure

Crescent Moon Snowshoes are a great way to get out and have memorable adventures during the winter season. Of course, snowshoeing is also an excellent way of keeping yourself mentally and physically healthy. Be proactive, make plans; strap on your snowshoes, get active and avoid that unnecessary weight gain this winter!
