The University of Alaska at Fairbanks Snowshoe Trails

The first stop on the list of Alaska’s best places to snowshoe is the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. While this school has countless miles of locations throughout which you can snowshoe, one of the best trails is called the Skijoring Trail. This is a trail that takes most people about an hour to finish and is just under two miles in length. This is an excellent trail for anyone who might be getting into the sport of snowshoe for the first time. There is a robust trail system at UAF that provides countless opportunities for individuals to snowshoe. The best time of year to visit UAF for snowshoeing is during the winter. During the summer, the trails are just as gorgeous; however, better for hiking.

Alaska: The Tony Knowles Coastal Snowshoe Trail

One of the top places to try snowshoeing in Alaska is the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail. Considered to be one of the most beautiful trails in the entire country, the Tony Knowles Trail is 10 miles in length and meant for people with a decent bit of snowshoe experience. Most people spend a few hours on this snowshoe trail, but it would take all day to see the entire thing. This trail is sure to deliver one of the most enjoyable outdoor experiences around. The scenery includes views of some incredible sites, including Anchorage and Mount McKinley. Those who truly get lucky might be able to see beluga whales out in the bay as well! The Tony Knowles snowshoe trail goes through some of the most densely-packed forests in Alaska where there are numerous opportunities to take in some wildlife. Snowshoe Alaska: Wolverine Peak

If you are an advanced snowshoer or up for a challenge, Wolverine Peak, located in Anchorage, Alaska, is where it’s at! This trail is five miles in length which is quite the distance on snowshoes. It takes most people more than six hours to finish and has a total elevation change of more than 1,000 feet. This trail is for snowshoe experts and is one of the largest mountain peaks in Chugach State Park. Wolverine Peak is a popular day hike for those who visit the Anchorage area. This strenuous snowshoe climb rewards those who tackle it with some gorgeous views of lakes and mountain valleys below. It is essential to bring hiking poles as this hike might not be possible without them! Be sure to bring food and water as well!
